We broke a record at A Hand Up this past weekend. Six deliveries in four days!! It started on Friday morning when Mike Fishman met two case workers from DCF at our warehouse. They collected a coffee table, 3 lamps, pots & pans, cooking utensils, bakeware, dishware, glassware, silverware, linens, blankets, pillows, towels and some small electrical appliances for Annetta and her four kids.
Saturday, Sue Kayeum led a large delivery to Melissa and her four kids. She had ample help from Dave Houpert (Aetna), Zach Kozar (NWC), Matthew Masciocchi (NWC), Joe Capozza (UHart), Adriel Parra (UHart) and Mike Fishman (Fishman Enterprises) who loaded and delivered 3 bed sets with frames, a couch, armchair, coffee table, 2 end tables and a night stand, 2 dressers, a book case, kitchen table and 6 chairs, a TV and a TV stand, 5 pillows, 3 sets of towels, small kitchen appliances, dishware, glassware, silverware, pots & pans, cooking utensils, baking dishes and a vacuum cleaner. The team had to use both the front and back entrance to the apartment to get everything in. A big thanks to the volunteer team for turning Melissa’s empty apartment into a much more livable space. Extra kudos to Sue for navigating the truck in and out of a tight alleyway off of the always busy Park St. The team returned the truck to the warehouse in time for Tom O’Neill to take it down to Marlborough to pick up a myriad of items donated through St. John Fisher Catholic Church. They packed the truck and were kind enough to unload everything into the warehouse (more to follow on this).
On Sunday, Zach, Joe and Adriel returned to the warehouse for a second round of deliveries and were assisted by Danny and Sean Keating (both NWC), Sean Langan (NWC), Thomas Rattigan (Hall) and Jim Rattigan (Rear ADM Ret.). The first delivery came to us. Clarence showed up and picked up a queen bed set with frame, and 2 end tables. We helped him tie the mattress to the top of his car and off he went. At the same time, the team loaded two small deliveries to clients in Hartford. They dropped off a sofa, dresser and book case to Yavonne and then stopped at Tanika’s apartment to deliver linens, blankets, a coffee table, 2 end tables, 2 night stands, 4 lamps, towels, pillows and a vacuum cleaner. Joe and Adriel stayed behind at the warehouse and helped Sam Paul reorganize all of the furniture in the warehouse, in particular the items that had been dropped off the day before. Thanks again to the volunteers from NWC and UHart (and you Thomas) who helped us improve the lives of three people in Hartford.
The sixth and final delivery was accomplished on Monday. Donna Vibes and Michael Lemnios met a vet at the warehouse and helped load a dresser, coffee table, end table, book case, kitchen table and chairs, TV, entertainment centers, small kitchen appliances, lamps, bedding, towels and some bakeware into his truck. Thanks to Donna and Michael for taking time out from their day to help out a vet.
