The Hartford Marathon is happening on Saturday, which will make getting in and around Hartford difficult. Therefore, we have only scheduled a delivery for this Sunday, 10/9, starting at 12:00 noon at the warehouse located at 93 Talcott Road, West Hartford. We need a driver and 3-4 volunteers to help make this delivery happen. Please let us know if you can help and thanks in advance for doing so.
Last weekend we had our first Drop Off Day of October. We were grateful to have six members of UHart’s Alpha Phi Omega community service fraternity help us out. We split the team into two groups. Group one followed Alan Heins and the AHU truck around West Hartford to make four stops to pick up donated furniture. Group two stayed at the warehouse with Sam Paul and put together 14 (!) sets of dishware/glassware/silverware/cooking utensils/tablecloths/napkins/other in boxes that are labeled with the contents of the box. These “box sets” are a great help to the volunteers making a delivery to a client that needs dishware/glassware/silverware, etc. for their empty apartments. APO will be joining us again in a couple of weeks and we look forward to the passion and enthusiasm they bring with them. On Sunday, Sam Paul met the Northwest Catholic All Stars (Brendan, Sam, Lucasz) and Paul Van Doren (Hall High) to make a delivery to a vet who needed furniture for his bedroom, living room and kitchen. The items on his list were all staged the day before so the team showed up, loaded up and completed the delivery in record time. Kudos to the students from NWC and Hall for showing up each weekend to help us help others.
