Staying full out busy at A Hand Up!

There are lots of kudos to be given for the assistance provided by our volunteers last week.  First off is Mike Fishman, who was able to carve out a couple of hours last Thursday to bring our truck over to Town Fair Tire and get 6 new tires put on the truck.  We also send a shout out to Town Fair Tire who set us up as a non-profit commercial account and gave us a discount on the cost to replace the tires.   We saved money on taxes and labor.   Thanks Town Fair Tire!!  On Saturday, we had our usual NWC crew (Brendan, Sam & Lucasz) and Tom Wiegmann.  The team loaded furniture and other household items to deliver to a client in East Hartford, but not before they made two stops to pick-up much needed furniture from donors in West Hartford and Wethersfield.  We put our new tires to the test with a West Hartford-Wethersfield-East Hartford run and finished up back at the warehouse to unload what was left after the delivery portion of the trip.  On Sunday, Jim Rattigan and some members of UHart’s Alpha Phi Omega fraternity manned the warehouse during our Drop Off Day.  A client was supposed to come by to pick up furniture and other household items but never showed.  They spent the time assisting donors and re-organizing the warehouse.  Thanks Jim and APO for helping us out.

This Saturday, 10/22, starting at 10:00am from our warehouse located at 93 Talcott Road, West Hartford, we are making a delivery to a mom and her four year old in East Hartford.  We need a driver and 3-4 volunteers to help her out.  Please let us know if you can assist.  On Sunday, 10/23, starting at twelve noon from the warehouse, we are making a delivery to a vet who was able to land an apartment on the campus of the VA Hospital in Rocky Hill.  We need a driver and 3-4 volunteers for that delivery as well.  The case manager is stopping by before the weekend to tag everything for his client so it will be a load and go trip.  Please let us know if you can help us on Sunday.

Current needs: Twin and full size sheets, towels, new pillows, silverware, pots & pans, small electrical appliances, space heaters (it’s going to get cold soon).
