Before the BBQ, come lend A HAND UP!

We know it’s the holiday weekend but think about story that you could tell at your afternoon BBQ of how you helped someone get back on their feet.  Remember that our hours to help are in the late morning.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – Please email us at volunteer@ahandupinc.org with the date and time you can attend along with your contact number

  • Saturday 5/27 10a-1p –  We are looking for a driver and volunteers to help with 2 deliveries (1 small – 1 big) to 2 single mothers and their kids in Hartford.
  • Sunday 5/28 10a-1p – We are looking for a driver and volunteers to bring a medium size load of much needed housewares to a client in East Hartford.
THANK YOU
  • Saturday 5/20 Dave H tells us the delivery to Travis went perfectly.  We cancelled on Travis once before so it was critical we get to him.   Thanks to Sam P, Ivan, and Ted N for being the heavy lifters.
  • Sunday 5/21 – Todd P and the Keely crew made 3 stops for some very nice items.  However we did have to say no to motorized recliner couch that was just too heavy.  We felt bad but gave the donor some other options on how to give it away.  While they were out Sheila W stayed behind at the warehouse to greet 3 donors and do some much needed sorting.
  • Monday 5/22 – Todd P and the 2017 ASD team made their last delivery for the year and possibly forever.  The 4 students that we work with each week are graduating high school seniors.  Best wishes go out to them for a successful future.  If they put it half the effort into their lives that they did for AHU then they will be just fine.

DONATIONS NEEDED

  • Dressers
  • Twin size blankets and comforters
  • New pillows
  • Kitchen tables and chairs

Beat the heat! Lots of jobs available

  • Saturday 5/6 – Jim R and Sam P manned the warehouse during our drop off day.  They did some much needed cleaning out and reorganizing to use up ever last inch of space in the very full warehouse.  While they did that Alan H, Lionel, Ivan and Matt picked up some nice things at 4 different donors in Simsbury.   The warehouse is packed.
  • Sunday 5/7 – Dave H along with Margie K, her daughter and a friend and Marcelino from NWC all headed over the river to East Hartford for their delivery.  The jarring thing about this delivery is that our client graduated from Hall High in 2014 bringing this right into our own backyard.   Dave H went the extra mile making a second trip back to her to get her a bed frame.  Thanks Dave and team.

Come on down and drop off your donations and maybe even find something to take home with you from Tag Sale.  Sometimes we end up with items our clients don’t need like a nice Weber grill or fine china.  There are several chairs, mirrors, pictures, blankets, desks, shelves, even a grandfather clock. Make us an offer and support A Hand Up along the way. Many items are FREE.

Spring is in the air just in time to give A Hand Up

Please read below about the special donations we got from Sam and Garret and the Northwest Catholic School community on Sunday. These young men are great volunteers and really support us! We appreciate them tremendously.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Please email us at volunteer@ahandupinc.org with the date and time you can attend along with your contact number

Saturday 4/8 10a-1p – We are looking for a driver and volunteers to step up our game for 2 deliveries scheduled in Hartford. Between the 2 families we will be helping 3 adults and 6 children.
Sunday 4/9 10a-1p – We are looking for a driver and volunteers to make a delivery to a couple in Hartford who are just getting back on their feet.

THANK YOU – including this very special one

Sam and Garret’s donation drive for AHU at Northwest was a success! With assistance from Mrs. Bournique, a Religion teacher at NWC and campus ministry, they collected items during the performances of the NWC Spring play (The Little Mermaid) and the NWC community’s generosity came through. We scored many much needed household items including twin sheets and blankets, bath towels, silverware, toasters, lamps, drinking glasses and pots & pans (and a check for $25!). Great job!!!!!!

Saturday 4/1 – Sam P manned the warehouse during drop off day and met with 3 donors. Sam and our volunteer also helped Mary R and her 4 kids load up a u-haul for the apartment they were moving in that day. While Sam had his hands full so did Alan H and Ivan who made a trip over the mountain for 3 stops in Avon. One donor even had the couch he was donating reupholstered to make sure he was donating a great item.
Sunday 4/2 – Jim L and his team had trouble reaching the client to make the delivery. They loaded up the truck and headed out but still couldn’t reach him. Sometimes that happens and we don’t get to make the delivery. That doesn’t stop us for loading up and trying anyway. We don’t give up on our clients that easily.
Monday 4/3 – Jim L and the ASD students had a better day delivering a bed, frame, linens and other needed items to a client in need.

DONATIONS NEEDED

End tables and coffee tables
Dressers
