Items Needed

A Hand Up Inc. needs new and gently used items that can be used to furnish apartments for people who may have no household goods of their own. Therefore, the focus of items we store in our warehouse are modest sized, basic, practical pieces that are needed to set-up a new home:

Furniture:

  • Bed frames & new mattresses – twin and full
  • Small sofas and loveseats
  • Small armchairs
  • Dressers
  • End, coffee and TV tables
  • Lamps
  • Kitchen tables and chairs
Kitchenware:

  • Pots and pans – fry and sauce pans
  • Dishes and glasses
  • Coffee makers, mixers, microwaves and toasters
  • Silverware
  • Cooking utensils
  • Bakeware
Linens:

  • Blankets and bedspreads
  • Sheets
  • Pillows (new only)
  • Bath towels and washcloths
  • Kitchen towels and washcloths

Please refer to the  “Items to Donate to A Hands Up” document for up to date details on the items listed above that we need and are currently accepting as well as a list of items that we DO NOT accept (i.e. fine china, clothing, baby items, decorative items, bulky/ accent piece furniture).

Note: A Hand Up, Inc. reserves the right to accept/reject items that are offered for donation based on current warehouse needs and condition of items. A Hand Up, Inc. also reserves the right to donate items received to other non-profit charitable organizations if the items donated do not meet the mission of our organization. From time to time the organization may sell donated items that are not needed by our clients to help fund operations.

We have drop-off days for donations at our warehouse twice a month (1st Saturday and 3rd Sunday of every month). Our warehouse is located at 93 Talcott Road (at the corner of Grassmere Ave.) in West Hartford.  Please do not leave anything there unless someone is at the warehouse.
